Staff Picks!

Posted 11 September 2015

At The Light we really love movies, and each month members of staff will hand pick movies that we are especially excited about! They will be picked by real life humans with varying tastes and of dispositions, and will even include samples of their movie tastes (not necessarily our all time favourites!) to give you an idea of what they’re into!

  • Jane – Events Oracle (Taste Sampler: 21 Grams, The Woodsman, Pitch Perfect)

Irrational Man: Every Woody Allen film has the potential to be the next great Woody Allen film. I thought Blue Jasmine was an exceptional film with thanks to the superb Cate Blanchett. Allen looks set to continue his superb run of casting his female roles with the incredible Emma Stone and the mesmerising Parker Posey starring alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the dark comedy, murder mystery. And who doesn’t love a dark comedy/murder mystery?

  • Andy - Head Projectionist & trouble-shooter extraordinaire (Pulp Fiction, Usual Suspects, Warrior

The Visit: M. Night came storming out of the gate with a couple of my favourites, The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. After disappointing with his follow-ups (we all know he’s had a couple of turkeys!) I have high hopes for The Visit, especially after seeing the trailer reaction video on YouTube with the audience looking petrified!

  • Craig - Marketing & Social Media Ninja (Chinatown, Lost in Translation, Blade Runner)

- Me and Earl and The Dying Girl: Sundance and TIFF are my go-to festivals for the years upcoming releases with many of my favourite films doing well and making their name at these festivals in the past. So seeing that Me and Earl and the Dying Girl swept up at this years Sundance and includes a couple of my favourite actors, Nick Offerman (Parks and Rec) and Molly Shannon(SNL alumni) has me pretty psyched to see this one. The trailers have also got me looking forward to seeing Greg and Earl's homemade scenes from classic movies.

  • Lauren – Marketing Miracle Worker (Mrs Doubtfire, Chicago, Lawless)

Rocky Horror Picture Show: I love a good musical and I cannot wait to see the live screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I’ve seen the film and loved every minute and I’ve heard and read reviews that say that the live production is even more fun, a whole lot stranger and full of fun and frolics. I also hear that they have new additions to the cast, including; Stephen Fry, Emma Bunton and Mel Giedroyc. Count me in!
