Staff Picks. Vol.2

Posted 10 October 2015

At The Light we really love movies, and each month members of staff will hand pick movies that we are especially excited about! They will be picked by real life humans with varying tastes and of dispositions, and will even include samples of their TV and movie tastes (not necessarily our all time favourites!) to give you an idea of what they’re into!

.

  • Jane - Events Oracle (Taste Sampler: Woman in Black, Skyfall, Hairspay)

Crimson Peak.

As soon as I saw the trailer for this I couldn’t wait to see more! I’m not Del Toro die -hard but Crimson Peak’s gothic setting and interesting visuals make it far too tempting to miss. The actors are also a huge factor in my excitement, especially the amazing duo of Mia Wasikowska who is wonderful in one of my favourite films, Jane Eyre, and Jessica Chastain who I loved in The Help.

.

  • Craig – Marketing and Social Media Ninja. (Blade runner, Donnie Darko, Alien)

- The Martian.

I have heard so many great things about the book so as soon as I heard that it was being adapted to film I instantly wanted to know more. Then I saw that Ridley Scott was directing and read through the casting and it became one of my most anticipated films of 2015! So, it’s Ridley Scott, Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Donald Glover and Chewetel Ejiofor. Sometimes the casting is enough to convince you to see a film and I think this is one of those times! Sci-fi is one of my favourite genres and Ridley Scott happens to direct some of my all time favourites, Blade Runner and Alien combine all this fan-boying with the fact that Water has been found on Mars and I couldn’t be more hyped!

.

  • Lauren – Marketing Miracle Worker (O Brother, Where art Thou?, Meet the Parents, Orange is the New Black)

- The Intern.

I have always loved Robert De Niro and especially loved him when I first saw him turn to comedy in, Meet the Parents! I feel like I’m always going to get a great performance from him and even in his more questionable film choices he has usually been very good and the best part of a bad film! Another casting choice that interests me in The Intern is Anne Hathaway’s apparent role reversal from The Devil Wears Prada, now she’s the hard-faced boss wanting to be impressed!

.

  • Projection Mike. Loves projecting moving images onto large screens. (Gone in 60 Seconds, Southpaw, Independence Day)

Everest.

I will keep this short and sweet! I love films that are epic and star-studded, so a 3-D survival thriller that is based on true events and has the impressive cast of Jason Clark, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal climbing the worlds tallest mountain during one of the worlds fiercest storms ticks all my epic-movie boxes! After all the great reviews I’ve read I cannot wait to see this.
